About Amber

Amber is a licensed Funeral Director and has been breaking down death taboos in the funeral industry for nearly a fifteen years. She is co-founded Undertaking LA (now Clarity) with Caitlin Doughty to help establish a funeral home that prioritized eco-friendly practices and challenged the industry's status quo. By doing so, she helped pioneer the movement to push the boundaries of what's possible and making natural burial more accessible and mainstream. Her passion for sustainability and innovative approach has earned her a reputation as a leader in the funeral industry, and she's not afraid to shake things up in pursuit of a more ethical and environmentally-conscious death care.

Aside from talking about the logistics of funeral care, she’s also been caught teaching the infamous Kim Kardashian the tricks of the mortuary makeup as well as the incredible duo, Trixie and Katya.

"Mortician in the Kitchen" stems from Amber's love of food and uses it to explore the integral role it plays in death, dying and grief. She delves into a variety of topics, from how sympathy meals help build community support and provide solace beyond literal words, to the exploration of traditional funeral foods worldwide, illustrating how people universally turn to the ritual of cooking in times of tragedy. It also addresses often-neglected issues such as coping with cooking alone after losing a partner and rediscovering joy in cooking for one.

Amber is always open to collaborations and new ideas so please feel free to reach out via her contact page if you have questions, comments, or just wanna chat!
